AHS girls drop Friday, Saturday matchups

No. 1 Bergan beats Arlington by 17

The top-ranked Fremont Bergan girls basketball team produced an 18-point fourth period Saturday, putting down Arlington 42-25.
The Eagles (4-5 overall) were within 24-20 with the No. 1 team in Class C2 through three periods, but totaled just five points during the final 8 minutes at home. Coach Luke Brenn's squad has lost three-straight games after a 4-2 start to the season.
Freshman guard Emme Timm scored a team-high 10 points for AHS in defeat, while Macy Wolf scored seven and Britt Nielsen added six. Hailey O'Daniel sunk two free throws, too.
Carlee Hapke, meanwhile, led a balanced Knights attack with nine points. Her team remains unbeaten through 11 games, picking up its second win against Washington County opposition. It beat Fort Calhoun on Dec. 2, 58-11, and faces Blair on Feb. 2.

Mustangs top Eagles
Arlington also dropped Friday's home matchup with Raymond Central, 52-34.
Coach Brenn's Eagles were within 27-22 through a half, but allowed a 20-point third quarter in defeat. They scored just 11 during the same timeframe and then notched just two Taylor Arp free throws in the fourth.
Overall, Nielsen led AHS with nine points and Wolf scored seven. Both Arp and Timm added six points, while the Mustangs' Quincy Cotter led all scorers with 17.
The Eagles next compete 6 p.m. today at North Bend Central.
