The Fort Calhoun High School golf team took 14 less swings than Arlington on April 9 during the Douglas County West Invite at The Pines Country Club in Valley.
The effort kept the Pioneers out of last place during the 16-team tournament as they took 15th and the Eagles took 16th. Coach Dustin Humphrey's team finished with 412 strokes, while coach Landon Walkenhorst's AHS squad carded 426.
The victorious Bennington Badgers, meanwhile, took 307 swings — 12 better than second-place Elkhorn Mount Michael. The Badgers' Reid Thornburg was the individual medalist, shooting a 1-over par 73.
Two FCHS golfers carded less than 100 strokes across 18 holes during their first tournament of the season. Tysen Sunderman shot par on six holes at The Pines, finishing with 93 swings altogether.
Adam Elofson, meanwhile, sank shots for par three times, finishing with a 95. His teammates — Caden Newman, Beau Ruma and Korbin Klein — finished with 111, 113 and 118 strokes, respectively.
Schuyler Logemann led Arlington with 101 swings in Valley. He shot par on hole and, notably, sank a chip from the edge of the bunker on hole No. 18.
Winston Slykhuis added 105 swings toward the Eagles total, too, while Hunter Wallace shot a 106. Trenton Hansen and Jack Rosenbalm finished with 114 and 120 strokes, respectively.
AHS next golfs 9 a.m. Thursday at Ashland Country Club, while Fort Calhoun plays Club 91 Golf Course in Leigh on Wednesday before also making the trip to Ashland-Greenwood's home invite.
