Arlington High School started its boys golf season at River Wilds Golf Club on April 2.
Omaha Concordia, though, won the dual with the Eagles, 179 strokes to 250.
“It felt good to get the season underway,” AHS coach Landon Walkenhorst said, offering a second thought. “A lot of room to improve on.”
Hunter Wallace led the coach's team with 57 strokes across nine holes, Nos. 10-18 at River Wilds. Winston Slykhuis and Eastan Strom added 59 apiece, too, while Schuyler Logemann, Johnathan Taylor and Trenton Hansen each carded 65s.
Calvin Flesner (69 strokes), Jack Rosenbalm (71) and Nathan Erwin (73) made their season debuts for Arlington, too.
Six Mustangs, meanwhile, shot in the 40s as the road team earned the dual win. Twelve Concordia golfers played the Eagles' home course overall.
Now, Coach Walkenhorst's team has more work to do.
“Next steps involve just getting better day-by-day and really working on the mental side of golf,” he said.
The Eagles next play Wednesday at The Pines Country Club in Valley. The Douglas County West Invitational starts at 10 a.m.
