The Arlington High School baseball season ended Thursday during the first round of the Class C District 4 Tournament in Hastings.
The Eagles started the spring campaign 4-1, but end it 6-15 after a 10-3 loss to St. Paul/Palmer at Duncan Field.
“Errors and not having the clutch hit cut our season shorter this year,” coach Justin Meyer said.
AHS surrendered Thursday's first run, but immediately matched it during the top of the second inning. From there, though, the Wildcats scored nine straight to take a commanding lead into the fifth, sixth and seventh frames.
The Eagles, notably, scored two more runs during the their last at-bats of the prep season. The top of the seventh-inning scores didn't make too much of a dent, though.
“The big takeaway from the spring is that we have a lot of young talented guys that will be back next year,” Meyer said. “Having only one senior made it so we could give young guys great varsity experience.”
The Class of 2025's Tim Halley had one of Arlington's three RBIs against St. Paul/Palmer, while juniors Luke Sharp and Luke Ott had the other two. Sharp, Ott and Tanner Kyllo had a hit apiece, too, while Liam Shearer, Cameron Wirsen and Jack Morgan scored runs.
AHS' Jackson Stosich and Wes Monke, meanwhile, combined to pitch six innings. The Tigers scored 10 runs against Stosich, but only one earned, according to stats uploaded to maxpreps.com. He struck out two batters, while Monke struck out three across three scoreless frames.
While the spring season is over, many of the Eagles' American Legion season is just ahead.
“What everyone should focus on this summer is continuing to get better in every aspect of the game,” Coach Meyer said. “Continue to be mentally strong. As well as get in the weight room to get bigger, stronger, faster.”
