The Arlington High School baseball team snapped its eight-game losing streak Saturday, finding success at the plate to do it.
“I think we just hunted the fastball and put it where they weren't,” first baseman Luke Ott said after the Eagles' 10-0 home victory against Louisville.
The 10 runs coach Justin Meyer's team scored were four more than it tallied during its entire slump when it was shut out six times. Ott notched the first RBI during the second inning, plating Tanner Kyllo with a single.
How'd it feel?
“It's been awhile since I'd gotten a hit, so, I guess, pretty good,” Ott said.
AHS added to its 1-0 lead with four runs each during the third and fourth frames. Luke Sharp hit an RBI double and scored on an error for a 3-0 advantage before back-to-back RBI swings by Liam Shearer and Kyllo later on during the inning.
Up five runs, the Eagles kept going during the fourth. Henry Lancaster, Jackson Stosich and Tim Halley loaded the bases for Sharp to pick up two more RBIs. Peyton Marfisi stepped into the batter's box next and made the score 9-0 with an RBI single of his own.
Then, lastly, during the sixth inning, Ott manufactured the game-ending run. The infielder blooped a Louisville pitch down the right field line and the ball found green grass before a diving Lion could reach it.
Marfisi, who'd been hit by a pinch, touched home plate on the play and Arlington won for the first time since April 12 at Omaha Buena Vista.
Pitcher Jackson Stosich threw all six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters.
“He had a lot more control,” Ott said of the right-hander's showing.
The Eagles, who didn't play a scheduled game Thursday in Wahoo due to the weather conditions, were set to play Monday at Omaha Gross before the start of Class C District 4 Tournament play in Hastings.
“I think we've just got to keep hitting,” Ott said.
AHS next opens postseason play 1 p.m. Thursday at Duncan Field against St. Paul/Palmer.
