A 'relaxing' round

10 Bears play home course during BHS Invitational

Ten Blair High School golfers played 18 holes on their home course Monday.
The Bears' top lineup finished 14th out of 18 teams at River Wilds Golf Club, while coach Rachel Brown's second team of five took 17th in the Blair Invitational.
“Relaxing,” BHS senior Carrie Truhlsen said in response to what it felt like playing at home.
“It was definitely less pressure than the Bay Hills (Golf Club) one just because I knew the course and kind of knew the girls I was golfing with,” sophomore Macy Schrad added. “It went good.”
Julia Karmazin and Elkhorn North, meanwhile, left River Wilds with first-place honors. Karmazin finished with 70 strokes, while the Wolves finished 51-over-par overall.
Blair's top lineup carded 154 swings over par, finishing six behind Lincoln Northwest and 20 ahead of Ashland-Greenwood.
Truhlsen led the way for the Bears, earning a tie for 32nd out of 87 golfers. The senior shot 32-over-par with 104 strokes total.
“Chipping and putting went surprisingly well,” she said, detailing her play. “I need to work on my iron shots because those have not been it this year.”
Truhlsen finished even on No. 17, taking three swings on the 129-yard par-3 hole.
Schrad, meanwhile, finished with 108 swings in a tie for 36th.
“I feel like I've definitely gotten better,” the sophomore said. “I didn't play last year, so this is kind of my first year with Blair golf. And this team, coming onto it, has been so good.”
The Bear finished the par-3 No. 14 hole in three swings, too.
Mackenzie Storjohann, meanwhile, shot the next-lowest score for the home team, finishing with 112 swings. Wrylee Osterhaus — who sunk a par shot on No. 7 — took 118 and Hannah Mackie — who finished back-to-back holes, Nos. 6-7, even — had 122. Leah Wehrli finished with 131 strokes, Diane Mitchell notched 132 and Kaiya Johnson had 134.
Ally Collins and Jaydyn Backman took 140 and 141 shots across 18 holes for BHS, too.
“We could definitely improve our scores, but I feel like anyone can say that,” Truhlsen said to summarize the tournament. The senior is looking forward to the rest of the fall campaign, which continued Thursday with a home triangular before next Tuesday's Arlington Invitational back at River Wilds.
“I think we have a really special bond with this team so far and it's only been a couple of weeks,” Truhlsen said. “So, I'm really thankful for that.”
