8 Blair Family YMCA swimmers earn gold medals at state

Eight Blair Family YMCA swimmers earned first-place results Sunday during the Nebraska YMCA State Championships at the Dillon Family Aquatics Center in Fremont.
Violet Hennigs, Winifred Petersen, Maddie Prinds and Madeline Ternus earned first in the age 8 and younger 100-yard medley relay in 1:50.97. The team also took second in the 100 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:33.5.
Prinds and Ternus added individual event wins, too. Prinds won the 100 freestyle, while Ternus was victorious during the 25-yard backstroke event in 21.89 seconds.
Petersen and Hennigs earned their best individual finishes in the 25 breaststroke, too, taking third and fourth, respectively.
Another Blair relay team comprised of Noah Nabity, Charlie Ternus, Sawyer Uphoff and Bryce Nabity won the 200-yard medley relay in 3:16.78 as well. Bryce Nabity added individual victories in the 25 backstroke, 100 IM and the 50-yard freestyle, too.
Noah Nabity, meanwhile, was in two individual events — the 100 IM and the 50 breaststroke.
The Barracudas' Bryher Gassman earned three top-five finishes in the age 11-12 division. Her best result was third in the 50 backstroke (36.7 seconds).
Abby Nabity added an age 9-10 fifth-place result in the 50 backstroke, while Brooklyn Ballinger secured sixth in the same age group's 50-yard breaststroke. Phoenix Bartlet earned 13th in the age 11-12 50-yard butterfly, too.
Altogether, the Barracudas earned eighth in the team standings. The Grand Island YMCA Quicksilver was first and the Fremont Area Swim Team took second.
