The Blair Senior Legion baseball team took care of business Tuesday at Omaha Roncalli.
Post 154 beat the home team, 10-3.
“No shenanigans,” first baseman Aiden McBreen said of the victory. “Nothing else from there.”
Trailing 2-1 through three innings, coach James Bilslend's team took control of the game with a seven-run top of the fourth frame. Lucas Matejka and Hans Sorensen earned free bases early on before courtesy runner Colton Flynn scored on an error, tying the score.
After Carter Saylor's walk, McBreen produced an infield single for the 3-2 lead. Brevin Leggott added to it with a two-run single before Nelson Kosch was hit by a pitch, causing a Roncalli substitution on the mound.
It didn't help much.
The sixth Blair run scored on a dropped third strike before Andrew Smutny's two-run single dropped just in front of the outfielder in right.
Roncalli responded with a run during the bottom of the fourth inning, but it still trailed 8-3. The home squad's hole deepened, though, when McBreen hit an RBI double down the left field line in the fifth.
“If (the pitch is) outside, just take it that way. That's what we were mostly doing,” he said. “Hitting where it's pitched.”
Kosch later scored on another error as Post 154's lead reached the final margin — seven runs.
Altogether, McBreen led Blair at the plate, going 2-for-4 in the No. 9 spot of the batting order. He said he doesn't mind hitting from there.
“(There's) not so much pressure, but I still want to get us back to the top of the order...,” McBreen said.
Leggott and Smutny finished with two RBIs apiece, too, while Matejka and Saylor each walked twice.
Sorensen earned the pitching win, allowing just two hits across six innings. He had two strikeouts, too, before Smutny stepped onto the mound during the seventh inning to close the game out.
While Blair's Junior Legion team lost 17-16 to Roncalli, the Post 154 Seniors improved to 7-3 with the win. They were scheduled to play Waterloo-Valley on Wednesday and next compete 6 p.m. today against the Westco Zephyr's at Vets Field.
Blair also hosts a Fargo Post 2 doubleheader on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
