Blair High School golfer Degan Dresden watched as his playing partners hit one putt apiece to par the ninth Great White hole Tuesday at Tiburon Golf Club.
The first player of the group to reach the green, getting there in two swings before a long first putt, the Bear stepped up to his ball for his second attempt from 3-4 feet. He made it, going onto finish with 94 swings for the 18-hole Omaha Skutt Invite — BHS' second-best score of the day.
While Dresden shot par on four holes and birdied the par-5 ninth Hammerhead course hole, Jack Schroeder led the Bears with 91 strokes total. His team was 12th out of 14 schools at Tiburon, but the senior finished 42nd out of 68 golfers altogether. He shot even on just three holes, but took more than six swings on just one — the Great White course's 515-yard No. 8, which he finished in seven strokes.
Justin Bird added 97 swings to Blair's team total — 384. He birdied the 165-yard second Hammerhead hole and shot par three more times.
Aaron Hinman, meanwhile, carded a pair of pars, finishing with 102 strokes, while Nolan Wolfe shot a 103.
Altogether, Elkhorn won the Skutt tournament with just 309 swings — 75 less than BHS. Second-place Omaha Gross totaled 319 and a third-place Skyhawk lineup took 321 strokes.
The overall individual medalist, the Antlers' Grady Friedrichsen, finished with a 1-over par 73. He made four birdies, shot even on nine holes and never carded more than a bogey.
BHS was scheduled to play a quadrangular Thursday at Indian Trails Golf Course and next competes 9 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Golf Club. The Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament is 9 a.m. Tuesday in Hastings as well.

Arlington and Blair golfers also played Monday during a junior varsity tournament at Platteview Golf Club.
Jack Rosenbalm led the Eagles with 109 strokes, while Trenton Hansen carded 111 and Calvin Flesner notched 117 swings. Johnathan Taylor and Nathan Erwin also finished with 125 and 134, respectively.
Blair, meanwhile, sent a lineup to Platteview, but it was unable to finish the tournament before having to return to school.
