2025-26 Athletes of the Week, Part 9

Vollmer, Himes and Post-Whiteowl make their runs toward state

Posted

We’re celebrating state cross-country qualifiers in this week’s Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week feature.
Ashton Vollmer, Emma Himes and Chris Post-Whiteowl will all compete with their teammates across 5 kilometers Friday in Kearney during the NSAA XC State Championships.

Ashton Vollmer, Arlington cross-country: This Eagle made sure his AHS boys team was represented at state alongside the girls’ Neva Bauer and Corinne May. He finished 10th at districts, clocking in at 17:45.2. Special mention goes to the four Eagles who scored touchdowns — Oliver Ladehoff (two), Ben Flesner, Peyton Marfisi and Luke Sharp — during the football team’s latest victory against Tekamah-Herman.

Emma Himes, Blair cross-country: This Bear set a personal best time at Omaha Skutt, securing a state spot with a ninth-place finish. She got off to a fast start and finished the race in 21:30.9. Special mention goes Declan McCabe, Laynie Brown and Griffin Rosterman. McCabe qualified for state cross-country, too, while Brown notched a two-homer game at the state softball tournament. Rosterman, meanwhile, was a terror defensively as BHS topped Elkhorn in football on Friday night.

Chris Post-Whiteowl, Fort Calhoun cross-country: I don’t like putting repeat honorees in these spots, but this Pioneer has earned it just as he did last month. His district championship team dominated at Elkhorn Mount Michael, but he led the way again as he has for much of the second half of the season. The senior was second in 17:09.6. Special mention goes to Will Dennis, the Pioneers’ second top-five district finisher, and all of the other members of FCHS’ two state-qualifying teams.

That’s all for this Sunday. Congrats to everyone noted and thanks for reading.
