The fall season is inching toward its end, but there’s still plenty of time for more Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week.
This week’s honorees are Aspen Smutz, Emily Warfield and Anna Stirek.

Aspen Smutz, Arlington golf: This Eagles golfer shot her team’s low score throughout the season, including on a final rainy day at the district tournament in Columbus. She finished her last 18 holes of the fall with 116 swings. Special mention goes to AHS cross-country runner Neva Bauer — the Nebraska Capitol Conference Championships champion and former Athlete of the Week recipient — and ninth-place finisher Ashton Vollmer.

Emily Warfield, Fort Calhoun softball: The Pioneer closed out the season with a strong showing at the plate during the district finals series with Freeman. She notched a solo homer and had four RBIs against the Falcons after putting together a strong subdistrict showing with a double, a triple and an RBI earlier in the week. Special mention goes to Kayla Kratz, who closed out the fall on a hot streak at the plate as well. It also goes to football players Jayson Reynolds and Lucas DeMilt, who had second-half interceptions against Omaha Concordia.

Anna Stirek, Blair golf: The freshman earned a place at the Class B state golf tournament with 94 strokes in Lincoln during the district tournament. She was 10th in the rain and starts state play in Scottsbluff on Monday. Special mention goes to the BHS softball team, which also qualified for state. London Larsen stood out with a grand slam swing, while freshman Olivia Bacon — as well as Tatum Macholan and Abby Leggott — stepped up in difficult situations within the pitching circle.

Have a good week everyone. It’s going to be a busy one for me, so I hope to see you all out there.
