I can't believe it's Sunday again already.
It means there's more Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week. The latest honorees are Ben Flesner, Emma Ammon and Sophie Weeks.
Please, let me explain why.
Ben Flesner, Arlington football: The bruising Eagles back carried the ball 22 times Friday, producing 119 yards during AHS’ win at North Bend Central. Notably, he was the high scorer, producing two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Special mention goes to golfer Aspen Smutz, who had two top-10 finishes this week, as well as cross-country runners Neva Bauer and Ashton Vollmer. Those Eagles helped their teams finish second and first during the Raymond Central Invite, respectively.
Emma Ammon, Blair volleyball: While Madeline Chikos led the Bears in kills for the week, this honoree led coach Jess Lansman’s squad Saturday during a 4-1 tournament run at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. The Bears earned second with Ammon totaling a team-best 32 kills, which brought her week-long total to 41. During the tourney, she had 10 twice and nine once as BHS improved to 17-9 this season. Special mention goes to cross-country runner Kate Wulf, who claimed second at Boys Town, as well as London Larsen, Jacy Schueth and Regan Blattert. The latter trio all hit homers in the Blair softball team’s win against Bennington.
Sophie Weeks, Fort Calhoun volleyball: The Pioneers setter crossed a career milestone this past week against Ashland-Greenwood. The longtime varsity contributor now has more than 1,000 career assists for the 15-8 FCHS squad. Special mention for the week goes to Chris Post-Whiteowl, a standout cross-country runner who had a big week, as well as football player Conner Hart, who scored a defensive touchdown off of an interception against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
Thanks for reading pals. Have a good week this week and every week.
