Moving right along.
Another week has come and gone, and it’s time to name the Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week. Our latest honorees are Oliver Ladehoff, Kaitlynn O’Neil and Chris Post-Whiteowl.
Oliver Ladehoff, Arlington football: This senior Eagle had a banner day as AHS improved to 3-2 with a 33-14 homecoming win against David City Aquinas. Not only did Ladehoff run for 166 yards on just 17 carries, but he scored four touchdowns against the Monarchs. One of those was a 63-yarder. Special mention, however, goes to the entire softball team and Lacey Bosshart of the volleyball team. The Arlington softball team bounced back from a beating against Fort Calhoun on Thursday to earn second during the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament on Saturday, while Bosshart had a dominant stretch at the net during AHS’ home tournament win Saturday against Blair.
Kaitlynn O’Neil, Blair softball: The Bears hammered the ball Saturday during a 3-0 Lincoln Southeast Invite run. Laynie Brown went 10-for-11 with two home runs and nine runs scored, but I went with O’Neil. Why? Because Brown has been recognized in this feature already, but mostly because O’Neil had a ridiculous 14-RBI day. She was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a triple against Scottsbluff, and was 3-for-4 with seven RBIs, a double, a triple and homer against Lincoln North Star. That was before she added two RBIs against Fremont for good measure. Special mention goes to Declan McCabe, who had a strong, top-5 showing last Tuesday during a cross-country race at Elkhorn Mount Michael.
Chris Post-Whiteowl, Fort Calhoun cross-country: Seth Waters won Thursday’s Jim Meyer Classic at Fort Atkinson, but this teammate followed close behind to make sure the Pioneers dominated the team standings, too. The second-place runner finished the 5-kilometer course in 17:16 — a little less than 11 seconds behind Waters, who’s been recognized here before this fall — on a warm day as FCHS won the meet by 28. Special mention goes to Waters as well as his fellow top-10 Pioneer finishers at home — Will Dennis, Merritt Olberding, Lauren Lammers and Anna McMahon.
Thanks for reading, my friends. See you at the next sports thing.
