The Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week keep coming.
The latest three Washington County standouts to be recognized this Sunday are Blake Welchert, Lauren Pittman and Blaise Baughman. Please continue reading.

Blake Welchert, Fort Calhoun football: The do-everything Pioneers back threw for a 24-yard touchdown, ran for a 10-yarder and caught a 44-yard score against the Boys Town Cowboys. FCHS improved to 3-0 with the 43-8 win. Special mention goes to quarterback Adam Elofson as well as volleyball player Emilee Thayer-Mencke, who had 24 kills across five sets against Tekamah-Herman and Omaha Brownell-Talbot. I should also note the cross-country efforts of Anna McMahon and Kayla Krantz, who had a productive Saturday for the softball team.

Lauren Pittman, Arlington softball: AHS’ pick had to be a softball player after Saturday’s tournament win in Malcolm, but I had a heck of time picking who. Everyone played a role, seemingly. The Eagles played six games last week overall, though, so I went with the shortstop who contributed throughout. Pittman had the lone hit against Gretna East and added seven more hits from there, including a homer against Tekamah-Herman. She had five RBIs, too. Special mention goes to the softball player’s teammates, including Tessa Spivey, Kallan Reed and Irie McCoy. It was McCoy who came through as a pinch hitter to be Malcolm in the title game. I’d like to recognize the efforts of Karson Foust of the football team and Neva Bauer of the cross-country team as well.

Blaise Baughman, Blair football: The bruising Bears back ran for more than 150 yards, scoring two touchdowns against Gretna. He tallied the first on a 14-yard reception before taking off on a 55-yard run during the fourth quarter. Special mention goes to Taytum Macholan, who excelled in the pitching circle this week, as well as standout golfer Anna Stirek, who carded just 91 strokes across 18 holes at Tiburon Golf Club during the Gretna Invite.

As always, I appreciate you reading. Thank you.
