My little Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week feature is taking over Sundays (I hope).
Part No. 3 is here and ready for you to read, so please do. Congratulations to the honorees — Madeline Chikos, Jake Flesner and Seth Waters.
Madeline Chikos, Blair volleyball: The Bears had a 4-0 week, sweeping through their home tournament Saturday against Omaha North, Omaha Gross and Omaha Burke. They also beat Crete last week, though, which is when Chikos notched a team-best 15 kills. She had a team-high 39 kills for the week, too, earning this recognition. Special mention, however, goes to Kate Wulf of the cross-country team — who notched a team-best finish in BHS’ season opener — and Laynie Brown, who continues to dazzle at the plate for the softball team. The junior is hitting at a .587 average 15 games into the season.
Jake Flesner, Arlington football: I had to pick between brothers on this one, choosing Jake for scoring 14 of the Eagles’ 22 points in a win against Conestoga. He caught a 26-yard touchdown pass, scored a 2-point conversion and ran in another TD from 10 yards out. I saw him out there on defense, too. Special mention, however, goes to Ben Flesner, who ran for 189 yards and a touchdown Friday night. It also goes to Corinne May, though. The cross-country runner won her season debut at Omaha Concordia.
Seth Waters, Fort Calhoun cross-country: Speaking of cross-country, Waters earned Fort Calhoun’s best finish last Tuesday during the season-opening race in Plattsmouth. He covered 5 kilometers in 17:23.76 for third place as the Pioneers secured second as a team. Special mention goes to FCHS’ top-finishing girls runner, Lauren Lammers, as well as football player Logan Brewer, who came up with two turnovers Friday against Omaha Roncalli.
Thanks for reading everyone. I’ll see you at the next thing or a future deal, which may be as early as Monday.
