Listen. I had to do it.
The dread I felt having to narrow down my choices for the Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week feature was too much to handle. I could have gotten physically ill, you know?
So, what did I do? I changed my own rules and added three Nannen Physical Therapy Runners of the Week.
Will the prestige of this weekly post fall because of this decision? I don’t care. I just want to recognize and spread the word about as many deserving kids as a I can for all of the cool athletic things that they do.
So, here we go.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Trent Koger, Arlington football: The Eagle caught two passes for 33 yard and scored on a two-conversion, but, most-importantly, he made the game-clinching tackle against Fremont Bergan. Congrats to AHS for winning three of its last four games of the season.
Sophie Weeks, Fort Calhoun volleyball: The Pioneers broke a substantial losing streak last week, beating Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. Their setter, Weeks, was a big reason why, finishing the match with 37 assists — just four shy of the school record, according to coach Liz Sevcik.
Hayden Daggett, Blair football: The Bear caught two long touchdown passes from Cooper Sorensen, including one as he was interfered with by an Omaha Skutt defender. The catches covered 75 and 51 yards, respectively.
RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
Chris Post-Whiteowl, Fort Calhoun cross-country: This Pioneer led his boys team to a fifth-place team finish at the NSAA State Championships in 27th overall. His time across 5 kilometers — 17:29.6 — was his best ever.
Hailey O’Daniel, Arlington cross-country: A new state champ should always get recognized here even if she was the Athlete of the Week just last week. This Eagle’s gold medal was her fourth medal overall at state. Congrats Hailey, and congrats to another former Athlete of the Week — Kolby Tighe — who secured sixth for AHS on Friday.
Jade Wickwire, Blair cross-country: The senior set her best-ever cross-country 5K time in Kearney during the Class B state race. She finished 29th in 20:33.65, leading her team to an 11th-place showing.
As always, thanks for reading.
Please, please forgive me for breaking my set rules to include all of these kids this week. And, now, please wish me well as I have to decide who to feature on this week’s video interview.
