Competition is heating up with the fall sports postseason upon us.
Competition has been hot from the start, however, in the Nannen Physical Therapy Athlete of Week races. Killian McIntosh, Mackenzie Storjohann and Kaylee Taylor all excelled at a high level across the last seven days.
Killian McIntosh, Arlington football: The Eagles were great on the ground against North Bend Central and this runner was a big reason why. He had 18 carries for 196 yards and two scores. His longest touchdown run came across 50 yards during AHS’ homecoming victory. Special mention goes to Owen Ladehoff, who had three touchdowns against the Tigers, as well as volleyball player Kaylie Herman, who’s serve streak turned the tide in a win against Schuyler — in my opinion. Cross-country runners Hailey O’Daniel and Kolby Tighe get their customary mention here as well because of course they do. They had great finishes in Kearney last week.
Mackenzie Storjohann, Blair golf: The Blair Bear medaled twice last week, finishing 10th at the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament in Lincoln and eighth in Oakland. The senior carded 96 and 109 strokes during the tourneys, respectively. Special mention goes to her teammate, Tessa Nicholson, who finished with just a few more total strokes, but led the tournament-winning Bears in Oakland with 99 swings and a third-place finish. Taylor Mostek had 13 kills for the BHS volleyball team against Columbus, too, while softball player Laynie Brown had three RBIs against Bennington.
Kaylee Taylor, Fort Calhoun softball: The Pioneer homered and had multiple RBIs on Saturday against Centennial and Auburn, but she accomplished even more last Thursday against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. That’s the night she established new, growing school records in career runs scored, runs in a season and career stolen bases. This is her 2024 stat line: .588 batting average, 47 hits, two homers, 22 RBIs and 45 runs scored. Special mention this week goes to Adam Elofson, who scored three rushing touchdowns against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
