The 2024-25 Washington County school year is no more.
As a result, it’s time to name the year's final Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week — Afton Byelick, Hailey Roewert and Hailey O’Daniel.
Afton Byelick, Fort Calhoun track and field: The Pioneers’ lone state track medalist took seventh in the Class B pole vault. The school record-holder cleared 10 feet, 6 inches, capping her season on the NSAA’s podium at Omaha Burke Stadium. Special mention goes to the entire Fort Calhoun baseball team for a memorable postseason run.
Hailey Roewert, Blair track and field: The state champ. This senior cleared 5-5 in the high jump, securing a Class B title. Special mention goes to state golf qualifier Jack Schroeder as well as the Unified track team of Riley Yanak and Keenan Wyman who earned a second-place medal in Omaha.
Hailey O’Daniel, Arlington track and field: Congratulations are in order for this Eagles senior, who capped a magnificent final prep season with two silver medals in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. She is a track state champ, a cross-country state champ, a state basketball qualifier and a rodeo standout. She is Hailey O’Daniel and she would probably like me to mention her fellow medalists, Dallin Franzluebbers and Hayley Arp.
Thanks for reading these everybody. It’s a quick little extra thing I started whipping up a few years ago at this point, and the support for the articles and the kids within them doesn’t go unnoticed.
