Wellwood, O'Neil and Sharp make their mark

Posted

Yesterday was about all of our mothers.
Today, though, it’s back to the kids, you know?
The latest Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week are Kenny Wellwood, Kaitlynn O’Neil and Luke Sharp.

Kenny Wellwood, Fort Calhoun baseball: The senior Pioneer plated the walk-off run Friday as FCHS clinched its first-ever state tournament qualification. Clutch hitting aside, he also picked up the pitching victory against Lincoln Lutheran. Special mention goes to both Eli Tinkham and Chase Premer for notching three hits apiece, and Sam Genoways for his start on the mound against the Warriors.

Kaitlynn O’Neil, Blair soccer: The sophomore Bear had two goals and two assists during subdistrict and district play, helping her squad to its first state appearance since 2001. She, notably, scored the first goal of BHS’ district final win on Saturday. Special mention goes to Brynn Ray, Cadence Field, Laynie Brown and Beau Wendt who also took on goal-scoring duties during Blair’s postseason run.

Luke Sharp, Arlington baseball: This Eagle led his team in batting average (.282), hits (20), RBIs (17), doubles (eight) and had a homer this spring season. Special mention goes to Stokely Lewis, who’s made notable strides this season on the Arlington track and field squad.

Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of the moms, including mine —Deb (now we’ll see if she reads this). Thanks to you, though, for obviously reading this.
