Well. Well. Well.
Look who finally posted the Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week a day later than usual.
The sports editor did!
After the holiday weekend, I’d like to congratulate Tysen Sunderman, Brynn Ray and Whitney Wollberg.
Tysen Sunderman, Fort Calhoun golf: The Pioneer played back-to-back strong tournaments in Leigh and Ashland last week, finishing with one of the lower scores I can recall a FCHS golfer carding since I arrived for the 2017 season. He took eighth in Leigh, taking 84 swings across 18 holes before shooting an 87 just a day later. Special mention goes to Kaylee Taylor, Madi Larrick, Bella McLaughlin, Maelie Nelson and Afton Byelick for producing track and field school records this past week, too.
Brynn Ray, Blair girls soccer: The Minnesota State-bound senior is up to 17 goals this season after scoring three against a pair of ranked opponents last week. She had two, including a clutch penalty kick make, against No. 1 Gretna East before adding another against the top-10 Bennington Badgers. Special mention goes to Ray’s goalkeeper, Brooklyn Schroeter, as well as Hayden Daggett, who continues to stand out for the BHS track and field squad.
Whitney Wollberg, Arlington track and field: The Eagle already owned the pole vault record at AHS, but she bested it last Thursday in Waverly. Her new career-best mark will now be even harder to break at 10 feet, 3 inches. Special mention to Dallin Franzluebbers, who won the 300-meter hurdles event at the same meet, as well as golfer Winston Slykhuis, who shot the team low in Ashland.
Thanks for reading, all. Here’s to the start of the new week.
