It’s spring time in Washington County.
As a result, it’s time for our first two Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week — Brynn Lundgren and Emilee Thayer-Mencke.
Brynn Lundgren, Blair track and field: The Bears’ sprinter helped the girls squad to a team title at Concordia University on Friday. She won the 200-meter dash in 27.07 seconds, but also finished second in the individual 60-meter dash, which gave her a bit of an edge for my purposes in choosing an Athlete of the Week. Special mention goes to Lundgren’s fellow track and field individual event winners — Colin McCabe, Chase Cottle, Hayden Daggett and Nadia Davey — as well as Drew Wulf, who scored three goals in the Bears’ first soccer match of the spring.
Emilee Thayer-Mencke, Fort Calhoun track and field: This standout Pioneer was the clear Athlete of the Week from her school, securing FCHS’ lone event win at its Concordia University meet. The sophomore cleared 5 feet in the high jump on her first attempt for the win. Special mention goes to second-place track finishers Clay Bohnenkamp and Andrew Namuth.
You may have noticed how there aren’t any Arlington athletes mentioned in this week’s feature. The Eagles, unfortunately, didn’t take part in any school sporting events last week after Wednesday’s winter storm.
A few AHS athletes presumably played some Fremont High School girls soccer this past weekend, but I’m not all the way up to speed with that information at this moment. I'll get there, but my apologies for that.
Until next time, though, thanks for reading.
