I know what you’re thinking.
Four Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week? We’re breaking the three-athlete rule again?
Yes, yes we are. Trent Koger, Ryleigh Schroeter, Jane Busboom and Colby Bentley earned it.
Trent Koger, Arlington basketball: The Eagle scored 48 points across two games during the final week of his senior season. The last three points he tallied broke a 54-year-old school record for career points. Tom Anderson totaled 1,089 back in the day, while Koger finishes with 1,092. Special mention goes to Britt Nielsen and the state-qualifying AHS girls basketball team, which qualified for the Class C1 state tournament Friday night. It was hard not to pick Nielsen after her 31-point performance, but records don’t just fall all of the time.
Ryleigh Schroeter, Fremont swimming: The Blair High School senior and her classmate, Busboom, both earned four top-eight finishes at the NSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday. Schroeter’s best effort came in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished fifth in it, clocking in at 5:19.22.
Jane Busboom, Fremont swimming: This BHS senior earned a fifth-place individual finish, too, highlighting her four-medal stay at the NSAA Championships. She stopped the clock in 58.88 seconds during the 100-yard backstroke to claim it. Blair’s special mention goes to another state medalist swimmer, Jacob Hanson, as well as senior basketball player Addie Sullivan, who’s career closed in the district finals.
Colby Bentley, Fort Calhoun basketball: The Pioneers picked up a subdistrict win last Monday and Bentley was a big reason why. He scored 24 points, capitalizing on his opportunities in the paint. Special mention goes to FCHS senior Travis Skelton, who I felt capped a breakout final season on the hardwood this past week.
As always, thanks for reading these. This is the last of the winter season, but the spring sports season is just around the corner with practices beginning tomorrow, today or yesterday depending on when you see this.
