We just had a big, full weekend of Washington County sports and it produced plenty of Nannen Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week candidates.
There were 14 alone from the Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun girls wrestling teams. They all earned sate qualifications during district competition, but I’ve decided on Callee Shearer, Madi Larrick and Ali Wheeler.

Callee Shearer, Arlington wrestling: The AHS senior qualified for the state tournament at the end of just her second-ever wrestling season. She went 4-1 in Ord during district competition, pushing her season record to 28-11 and securing third. Special mention goes to senior Kelise Krivohlavek, who won her district bracket, as well as Jake Flesner and Tate Johannes who earned tournament titles, too. I should mention basketball player Emme Timm, too, who set a school record for career assists this past week.

Madi Larrick, Fort Calhoun wrestling: This district champion was forced to sit out the first month of the season due to injury. Since then, though, she’s gone 33-10, including her 3-0 record at districts this past weekend. If trackwrestling.com is to be believed, she finished her last two matches by pin in just 34 combined seconds. Special mention goes to Beckah Gossman, who also won her bracket in Falls City, as well as Anna Rae Hartline, who had some clutch victories during the district tournament.

Ali Wheeler, Blair wrestling: The senior is the Bears’ first-ever two-time NSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships qualifier. She took second at 115 pounds Saturday in Crete, going 3-1 across four matches. The standout wrestler is 28-9 overall. Special mention goes to her teammates, Reata Malmberg and Emma Belong, who also earned state berths.

Thanks for reading. Make sure you congratulate these wrestlers if you see them this week.
