Happy holidays, everyone.
I have no idea when I’ll get my Nannen Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week video interview done this week, but there’s no stopping me putting out my weekly Sunday selections.
As a result, congratulations to Zane Gerrish, Addie Sullivan and Travis Skelton.
Zane Gerrish, Arlington wrestling: The Eagles’ heavyweight went 4-1 during the Kearney Catholic Invitational, helping his team to a third-place result. Gerrish has come a long way as a still-new wrestler and showcased that, earning two pins, a 13-1 major decision and a 5-3 decision. Special mention goes to his teammate, Braxton Soll, who went 3-0 in his first three matches of the season as well as the whole AHS girls wrestling team that won Johnson County Central’s tourney Saturday. Point guard Emme Timm gets a shoutout, too, for another big game against Wahoo.
Addie Sullivan, Blair basketball: The future University of Nebraska-Kearney Loper scored 38 points across the Bears’ first two Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament games, totaling 17 with four 3-point makes in an upset of second-seeded Waverly. Special recognition goes to Taytum Macholan, who had her own success from 3, and finished with 15 points. Wrestler Hudson Loges gets his almost-weekly shoutout for an unbeaten record at the Flatwater Fracas, too, as does swimmer Jacob Hanson. The Blair-Fremont Tiger earned a first-place result during an Elkhorn meet.
Travis Skelton, Fort Calhoun basketball: The Pioneer scored 14 points twice this past week, sinking four 3-pointers during a 63-32 win against David City on Friday. Special mention goes to Eli Tinkham, who also hit three 3s against the Scouts, as well as Annaleigh McLaughlin who secured a wrestling medal in Pierce with a third-place effort at 105 pounds. Oh, and congrats to Dehlia Hallberg and Ella Bouwman for noteworthy performances for the unbeaten FCHS basketball girls this week, too.
Again, happy holidays. Have a good Christmas and check back here at enterprisepub.com/sports for all of the Washington County sports coverage you want.
