2024-25 Athletes of the Week, Part 12

Nielsen, Wheeler and Massey produce in competition

Posted

I didn’t slip and fall on any ice this weekend, but there’s plenty more to celebrate today.
For instance, we have three new Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week! The latest honorees are Britt Nielsen, Ali Wheeler and Raeann Massey.

Britt Nielsen, Arlington basketball: The senior finished just four points shy of the Eagles’ single-game scoring record against Omaha Brownell-Talbot, finishing with 35 total. The forward sank shots up-close, from the baseline and from beyond the 3-point line. Yes, Nielsen was good, but so, too, was Trent Koger, who finished with 27 points in the boys’ victory against the Raiders. Special mention also goes to Tanner Kyllo and Ben Flesner, who earned two wins apiece during Thursday’s wrestling triangular at Fort Calhoun.

Ali Wheeler, Blair wrestling: The Bears’ 120-pounder had a strong weekend showing at the Council Bluffs Classic, winning five matches and finished third in her bracket at the Mid-America Center. She secured three pins during the tourney. Special mention goes to Hudson Loges, who also earned third in Council Bluffs, and Madi James, who earned six wins for fifth during the event. Basketball player Brevin Leggott deserves some kudos, too, scoring 25 points during a win against Omaha Gross.

Raeann Massey, Fort Calhoun basketball: The Pioneers are 4-0 and this point guard is a big reason why. She scored a team-best 27 points across two blowout victories against Conestoga and Douglas County West this past week. Special mention goes to wrestler Ali Dill — who went 3-0 Thursday — as well as Merritt Olberding and Seth Waters, who both went 2-0 against Ralston and Arlington.

As I always say, thanks for reading.
