2 Eagles win weight classes in wrestling teams' debut

AHS girls earn 5th at Lakeview, boys 11th

Kelise Krivohlavek and Addyson Beam earned first-place weight class finishes Friday as the Arlington girls and boys wrestling teams opened their seasons at the Columbus Lakeview Invite.
Overall, the AHS girls took fifth, while the boys finished 11th in the standings. The Ashland-Greenwood boys and the Lakeview girls, meanwhile, secured the tournament titles.

11 Eagle girls earn medals
Krivohlavek finished opening day as coach Layne Laaker's lone undefeated wrestler.
The Eagles senior went 2-0 at 130 pounds, securing two pins in a combined 2:14. A state medalist last season, she won Friday's final match with Emma Glendy of Lakeview in just 1:04.
Beam, meanwhile, won the round-robin 190-pound weight class with a 3-1 record. The AHS wrestler pinned both Mishelle Gonzalez of Lakeview and Madilyn Reese of North Bend before earning a 13-11 decision against Karrie Weaver of Raymond Central.
Beam's teammate, fourth-place Evie Bottger, earned a pin in both wrestlers' last match.
Arlington's Dianna Flores and Ella Chamberlain added second-place individual finishes for their team, too. Flores went 2-1 at 170 pounds, winning two matches by pin before a technical fall loss to Lakeview's Emma Finecy in the finals.
Chamberlain, meanwhile, split her two matches at 145 pounds, earning a sudden overtime victory against Delylla Olson of Fullerton.
The Eagles' Teagan Taylor and Rylie Kyllo both went 3-1 at Lakeview to finish third in their respective weight classes. Taylor won her 170-pound third-place match by pin, while Kyllo earned a 40-second pin during her day at 120 pounds.
Additionally, Callee Shearer (fourth at 130 pounds), Jaydin Allen (fourth at 135), Caitlyn Camp (fifth at 170 and Mya Kitt (sixth at 100) earned top-six individual finishes in Laacker's debut as AHS' girls coach.
The Eagles next wrestle Thursday at a Fort Calhoun triangular. Matches begin at 6 p.m.

Flesner, Johannes lead boys
Eagles Jake Flesner and Tate Johannes led coach Doug Hart's boys team at Lakeview.
Both wrestlers went 2-1 to take second in their weight classes. Flesner earned a 17-1 technical fall in the 120-pound semifinals against Giovanni Ramirez of Gibbon before losing a 10-0 major decision to Lakeview's Jack Glendy in the finals.
Johannes, meanwhile, advanced to the 190-pound finals with back-to-back pins of Raymond Central's Caleb Redstrom and Columbus Scotus' Henry Ramaekers. In the final, though, Shelby-Rising City's Coy Vrbka earned a pin.
AHS' Cameron Hancock, Tanner Kyllo, Cole Flynn and Ryan Moss ended their first tournament of the season on the podium, too. Hancock was fourth at 132 pounds, while Kyllo secured fifth at 150.
Flynn, however, won his 138-pound junior varsity bracket. Moss was third at 190 pounds in JV competition, too.
The Eagles next compete 6 p.m. Thursday at a Fort Calhoun triangular.
