12 county baseball players claim World-Herald all-state honors

FCHS' Wellwood gets 1st-team recognition

The Omaha World-Herald announced its all-state baseball honorees Sunday with 12 Washington County ballplayers making the cut.
Fort Calhoun High School senior Kenny Wellwood claimed Class C All-State first team recognition as a pitcher and infielder. The Southeast Community College recruit went 5-1 on the mound with a 0.73 ERA, leading his Pioneers to their first-ever NSAA state tournament qualification.
Wellwood also hit at a .328 average, blasting a homer during the spring season and finishing with 17 RBIs.
Five of the FCHS standout's teammates earned honorable mention from the World-Herald, too. Chase Premer had a .347 batting average, Alex Christensen had a team-best 20 RBIs, Chase Bierman notched 26 hits, Sam Genoways produced seven doubles and Levi Lasher was 6-1 on the mound with a no-hitter to his credit.
Four Arlington Eagles were Class C honorable mention recipients, too. Luke Sharp hit .282 with a homer and 17 RBIs, while Tim Halley notched 11 RBIs, Jackson Stosich had a 2.50 ERA across 10 appearances and the versatile Wes Monke made 11 mound appearances, too.
In Class B, two Blair Bears were awarded honorable mention. Freshman Brevin Leggott hit .333 during the spring with 27 hits and seven RBIs, while Colton Flynn tallied 26 strikeouts across 23 1/3 innings.
