Blair track wins 6 events in Plattsmouth

Ewoldt sets 3rd school record of the spring

Reece Ewoldt's record-breaking campaign remains full-speed ahead.
The Blair High School girls track and field team took second and the boys fourth Tuesday at the Plattsmouth Invite, but it was the senior alone who broke her third school record of the season on the Blue Devils' track. Having already set new 1,600- and 3,200-meter run marks this spring, the future University of Nebraska-Kearney Loper topped former teammate Hailey Amandus' time in the 800. She finished her two laps around the oval in 2:17.26.
Ewoldt's event win was just one of six for coach Bryan Soukup's team in Plattsmouth. Allie Czapla, Audie Keeling, Kate Wulf and she also won the 3,200-meter relay in 10:02.61.
In the girls' pole vault, Geta Galbraith cleared a bar set at 10 feet to take first, too.
BHS senior Ethan Baessler, meanwhile, won the 100-meter dash in 10.78 seconds. Caleb Funk earned first in the 800 run as well, clocking in at 1:59.52.
Additionally, the Bears' Hayden Daggett and Chase Cottle each cleared 6 feet in the boys' high jump, claiming first and second, respectively. The pair often pushes each other to top finishes like Tuesday's.
“We're always battling back-and-forth,” Daggett said. “Last year, I jumped higher than him. This year, he's beating me.”
The leaper said he enjoys it.
“It's just fun competition,” Daggett said. “I feel like if I'm out there and I jump 6 foot, I'm not really complete if he doesn't jump 6 foot.”
Blair's Braden McGill added his own second-place field event finish in the discus, while Emma Ammon was second in the triple jump. Declan McCabe and Czapla secured runner-up finishes in their 800- and 3,200-meter runs, too, while Reese Beemer took second in the girls' 100 dash.
The Bears next battle for top-two finishes 10 a.m. Friday at Wahoo. There they'll compete against the host Warriors, Arlington Eagles, Fort Calhoun Pioneers and more.
