Lawson Tjardes, Caleb Funk and Blaine Vogt are Part 29’s Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week.
What’s left of the 2023-24 Washington County high school year is short, but the athletes’ performances continue to be large.

Lawson Tjardes, Fort Calhoun track and field: The senior Pioneer won the 1,600-meter run at Logan View and, three days later, ran an even faster time — 4:40.76 — at Wahoo. He also joined teammates Chris Post-Whiteowl, Travis Skelton and Eddie Lautrup for a 3,200 relay win at Logan View. Special mention to pitcher Declyn Otte, who earned a Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament win on the mound, while also producing two hits and an RBI.

Caleb Funk, Blair track and field: The Bear secured two first place finishes in the 800-meter run last week. He finished in 1:59.52 at Plattsmouth before winning at Wahoo in 2:00.85. Special recognition, though, goes to Funk’s teammate — Reece Ewoldt. The BHS standout is on a special run, winning four individual races last week and, seemingly, breaking school records at every meet this season. She deserves some Athlete of the Week mention every week, and I’ll keep it going until someone tells me to stop.

Blaine Vogt, Arlington baseball: The senior Eagle notched a team-best three hits during a Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament win against Louisville. Going into Saturday, he led AHS in batting average (.406), hits (13) and was tied with Killian McIntosh in RBIs (10). Special recognition goes to freshman track and field thrower Hayley Arp, who notched second- and fourth-place finishes Friday in Wahoo.

Thanks for reading. Please offer a “congratulations” to these athletes if you see them this week.
