Bears Cubs celebrated at BHS match
Young members of the Bear Cubs Volleyball program were introduced to the crowd Oct. 13 before a Blair High School Bears home match.
The youngsters participated in three Monday evening practice events before they high-fived high school players before the Thursday night Omaha Benson game. The program was created by the BHS coaching staff, who hope it excites young volleyball players in the community.
“Anytime you're building a program, you've got to start with the youth,” assistant coach Jess Lansman said last month. “That's something that we're really excited to do with these girls.”
About 80 kids signed up for the program, which concluded with their moment in front of the high school crowd.

Jr. Bears compete in playoffs
Three Blair Youth Football Association (BYFA) teams played Metro Youth Football League playoff games last weekend.
The ninth-seeded eighth-grade Bears lost to the Millard North Jr. Mustangs, 18-6, while the fourth-seeded fifth-graders lost a 20-0 game to the Lewis Central Jr. Titans.
The eighth-seeded Blair third-graders lost, too, falling to the EAA Jr. Storm 36-0.
In other play, the sixth-grade BYFA team topped the Gretna Jr. Dragons Green lineup, 19-0. The fourth-grade and seventh-grade Bears, meanwhile, lost games to the EAA Jr. Storm Grey (14-0) and the Papio South Jr. Titans (16-8), respectively.
Blair teams will continue play Sunday. The fifth-grade and third-grade Bears will host games at noon and 1:30 p.m. on the Dana College football field.

Norris Blue wins GPYFL
The Norris Blue Jr. Midget football team recently won the Great Plains Youth Football League playoffs, topping the Battle Blue 38-13 in the title game.
Both Arlington Youth Sports and the Fort Calhoun Youth Sports Organization had teams competing in the Norris Blue's division this fall. The Pioneers went 2-5, while the Eagles were 1-6.
