'Energy' is coach Aschoff's favorite part

Basketball coach Matt Aschoff loves the enthusiasm supplied by his youngest campers during each summer's Blair Girls Basketball Clinic.
“They just support each other so well,” he said. “They yell for each other and bring a lot of good energy.”
The youth camps for youngsters in grades 3-5 and 6-8 began Monday and continued each day through Thursday at Blair High School. Coaches — including BHS assistants Kari Heser and Dallas Roach — introduced drills and competitions to the basketball players throughout.
On Monday, Aschoff anticipated the girls would be enthusiastic for it all. From getting into their lines for drills, to rooting on their teammates in drills, such as a relay race less than hour into the festivities.
“Numbers will be good,” the coach said.
In addition to the youth camp, BHS Bears had camp from 10 a.m. to noon each day this week. Standout Makayla Baughman helped with the grades 3-5 camp Monday afternoon, too.
