Washington County voters did their part

While the 2020 presidential election may still be undecided, Washington County voters did their part turning out at the polls and outpacing the 2016 election.

Voters lined up Tuesday morning well before polls opened and poll workers reported a steady stream of people, including many young and first-time voters, all throughout the day.

Washington County voters wanted their voices heard and they acted. They should be commended for that.

Of the 15,205 registered voters in the county, 12,518 cast their ballots. Of those, 5,629 voted early — likely a record. Total turnout was 82.33%

That's impressive and bested the statewide turnout by nearly 9%. The more votes that are cast, the more representative our government is on all levels.

As we wait for the results of the race between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, we should be reminded that no matter who wins, the country must come together. Politicians — both Republican and Democrat — also need to work together. It's only for the betterment of the country.
