The doors to the new Kennard city auditorium and gymnasium opened just in time.
As snow began to fall in November 1952, the Kennard High School basketball team coached by John Potts moved from outdoor practices to indoor sessions on its new floor. The timing fit as the squad prepared for a new season.
“Coach John Potts' team found that the gym improved their basket-making considerably,” the Enterprise reported.
A tile playing surface covered the concrete floor. The court was 76-feet long with a 24-foot ceiling at its highest point. Two forced air heaters kept the players warm as the Kennard hoopers avoided snowflakes.
