The top-seeded Blair High School volleyball team lost its lone Class B-4 Subdistrict Tournament match Monday.
The Bears fell to South Sioux City in the tourney final, 3-1, after the Cardinals advanced into the match with a five-set victory against Schuyler. BHS won the first home set 25-21, but dropped the next three — 25-23, 25-22 and 25-13.
Coach Becca Mellema's team closes the 2022 season 12-17, while SSC improved to 10-20 with back-to-back victories. Twelve wins is the most Blair has won in a single season since 2002 when it earned 15.
BHS won 11 matches last fall, but also advanced to the district finals round with a subdistrict victory.
Meanwhile, on Monday, both Arlington and Fort Calhoun closed out their volleyball seasons, too. The Eagles went 0-for-1 in Class C subdistrict play at North Bend Central, while the Pioneers went 1-1 before their elimination at Douglas County West.
