Eastern Midlands Conference foes Blair and Lincoln Standing Bear officially opened volleyball season Thursday with a five-set matchup.
Playing in their first varsity match ever, the host Grizzlies pulled out the 3-2 victory — 25-27, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-11. BHS' loss came during head coach Jess Lansman's debut, too.
“We are going to work on stringing points together and less unforced errors,” she said when asked what the Bears would focus on during their next practice.
Sophomore Olivia Wolff highlighted Blair's play, Lansman noted. She totaled 27 digs during her first match as a libero. Madeline Chikos and Taylor Mostek added 18 digs apiece for the Bears, according to maxpreps.com, while Nicki Wendt had a team-best 17 kills.
Hailey Roewert had 36 assists in defeat, too.
BHS was scheduled to be back on the floor Saturday at Council Bluffs Lewis Central. Due to early Labor Day deadlines, results from the tournament will appear in this Friday's Washington County Enterprise edition.
