Emmons harvests 1st buck
Joslynn Emmons is featured in this week's Outdoors Photo of the Week.
The 11-year-old hunter harvested her first buck Nov. 12 in Washington County during the first day of the Nebraska firearm deer season. She shot the 3x4 buck on her grandfather's land on the southern side of the county.

Wildcats' Larsen makes academic team
Wayne State Wildcat football player Dex Larsen was recently named to the CoSIDA/College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Football Team, according to his school.
The Blair High School graduate maintained a 3.97 GPA to earn the honor alongside teammates Gage Dengel, Jett Janssen, Jacob Keiser, Ryan Kennedy, Alex Kowalczyk and Alex Powders. He is majoring in exercise science.
Larsen closed Wayne State's 9-3 season with 63 tackles, three forced fumbles and three sacks.

NSAA selects executive director finalists
Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) Executive Director Jay Bellar is retiring at the end of June 2023 and the Board of Directors has narrowed its list of candidates to replace him to four.
The finalists are Lincoln Southwest Activities Director Mark Armstrong, Bancroft-Rosalie Supt. Jon Cerny, Omaha Public Schools Director of Athletics John Krogstrand and Chris Loofe — the Associate Supt. of Kearney Public Schools.
Candidate interviews are set for today and Wednesday in Lincoln with the new executive director to begin their duties July 1, 2023.

Lightning wins soccer conference title
The Blair Football Club (FC) Lightning girls soccer team recently won its conference title this fall.
The age 13 and younger team topped the Nebraska Youth Soccer League's First Division Level 2 Blue Conference. Coach Abbie Thompson's team went 6-0-1, outscoring its opposition 13-5, according to the league website.

Basketball Club team earns 2nd
A Blair Basketball Club eighth-grade girls team recently earned a second-place tourney finish.
The White squad claimed its runner-up status during the Girls Battle of the Borders Tournament. It went 2-1 overall.
