14U Grizzlies notch 4-0 weekend
The age 14 and younger Blair Grizzlies baseball team went 4-0 last weekend, improving to 14-6 overall this season.
Coach Bubba Ratfield's team started Friday with a 9-8 victory against the Grover A's. Wyatt Fletcher scored the winning run on a wild pitch, while Chase Cottle went 2-for-2 and Jayson Fatfield was 2-for-3.
Henry Sullivan recorded five strikeouts for Blair, while Dean Udey had two after Ratfield's start on the mound.
The next day, Saturday, the Grizzlies won back-to-back games against the Omaha Lightning. They won the opener 14-1 before a 21-8 rout in game No. 2. Fletcher struck out six batters to win the first game Cottle (three), Udey (one) and Payton Briggs (one) notching RBIs.
In the 21-run game, Udey led the way with a 2-run, inside the park homer. Cottle, Fletcher and Carter Thurlow added 2-for-2 nights at the plate, while Jace Bensen and Briggs went 3-for-3.
Finally, Sunday on the road, Blair topped Westgate 3 11-8. Briggs hit the second inside the park homer of the weekend, while Udey notched a single, double and triple for the Grizzlies.
Pitcher Bob Raymond started on the mound against Westgate before Briggs stepped in a finished off the victory.
Blair next plays 4 p.m. Saturday on Hardy Field at the Youth Sports Complex.

12U Cubs notch 21-run victory
The age 12 and younger Blair Cubs baseball team notched a 24-3 victory May 20.
Lane Christensen, Andrew Smutny and Jonas Neuverth hit homers as the Cubs routed the Millard Battle Blue. Christensen and Smutny notched three hits apiece, while Tucker Storjohann, Ty Tessendorf and Neuverth added two each.
Two days earlier, the Cubs lost a 14-3 game to the UBA Gladiators despite two Tessendorf home runs.

BHS grad logs hit No. 200
Southwest Minnesota State senior softball player Emma Grote logged her 200th career hit May 2.
The Blair High School graduate is just the fourth player in Mustangs program history to hit the milestone. Her team finished its season earlier this month with a 27-20 record.
Grote completed her senior season with a career-high .369 batting average and 59 hits with 15 RBIs.

Eagle Golf Classic set for June 18
The sixth-annual Eagle Golf Classic is June 18 at the North Bend Golf Course.
The fundraising event has a 9 a.m. check-in time with a shotgun start at 10. The entry deadline for four-person scramble teams is June 14.
The Classic supports Arlington High School athletic teams including baseball, basketball, cheer, cross-country, dance, football, golf, softball, track, volleyball and wrestling.
