Diamonds win district softball crown
The Blair Diamonds age 12 and younger softball team won its District 8 Tournament on Sunday at the Blair Youth Softball Association Complex.
The Diamonds went 6-0, defeating the Fremont Force, WDSA Gold, Kelly's Fastpitch, the Tekamah-Herman Tigers, and Calvary 12U twice. They defeated Calvary in the championship game, 6-5.
Two more Washington County teams participated in the 23-team, three-day tourney in Blair. The 11U Omaha Lady Diamonds went 0-2 Saturday with a 4-2 loss to the Calvary and a 11-1 defeat to the Fremont Force.
An Arlington team also went 0-2. The Eagles lost 15-0 and 5-1 games to the West Point Yellow Jackets and the Nebraska Storm, respectively.

County ballplayers earn OWH honors
Eleven Washington County high school baseball players earned honorable mention Sunday with the release of the Omaha World-Herald's All-State teams.
Arlington was represented on the list by Dustin Kirk, Nick Smith and Trevor Denker, while Blair's Dex Larsen, Cade Ulven, Nolan Osterhaus and Morgan Rump were also recognized. Fort Calhoun's Tylan Conner — a Lincoln Journal Star first-teamer — Justin Myer, Jake Seina and Zach Faucher received the same Class B honors, too.

Foreman scores 5 in all-star game
Recent Arlington High School graduate Aiden Foreman scored five points last Saturday during the Tom Dinsdale Auto/Striv Sports All-Star Basketball Game in Grand Island.
The Eagles' GMC team fell to the Chevrolet squad, 100-71. Brady Timm of Yutan led the victorious squad with 30 points, while Tanner Turek of Grand Island Central Catholic led Foreman's team with 16.
Next, Foreman will play in the Warrior All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday in Fremont. The girls' game tips off at 6 p.m. inside the Wikert Event Center before the boys' game. Fort Calhoun's Abbie Anderson and Brant Hilzendeger, a former Eagle himself, will also participate.

12U Cubs have busy week
The Blair Cubs age 12 and younger baseball team was busy last week, playing six games.
The Cubs went 2-4 overall in those bouts, starting with a 1-1 showing against the Omaha Pacesetters and Elkhorn Select Gold. They fell to the Pacesetters 11-2 on June 8 despite hits by Ty Tessendorf, Tucker Storjohann and Nate Murray.
Blair then beat the Select Gold 13-3 on Storjohann's three hits — including a homer — and Jonas Neuverth's two.
The Cubs then spent a 1-3 weekend at a Sioux Falls, S.D., tournament. They lost to the Sioux Falls Ducks, the Pierre (S.D.) Bombers and the Sioux Falls Cyclones, but defeated the West Central Boltz 16-7. Storjohann and Tessendorf each blasted homers in the win, while Neuverth, Murray, Lane Christensen, Austin Sanny, Calvin Johnk and Brooks Ray added hits during the tourney.

AYS tractor pull is Saturday
Arlington Youth Sports' annual tractor pull makes its return Saturday after 2020's cancellation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Rumble in the Dirt Championship Tractor Pull begins at 6:30 p.m. with Washington County Fairgrounds gates opening at 5:30. Pits are open to the public with pullers across six classes represented, including Light SS, Super Farm, Limited Pro, Light Limited Pro, 3200 Super Field and Pro 4x4.
Proceeds from the pull benefit Arlington Youth Sports and the Arlington FFA Chapter, according to the event poster.
