Cubs teams compete at state
Blair Cubs youth baseball teams recently competed in state competition during the Fourth of July weekend.
The age 13 and younger Cubs went 2-2 in their Nebraska USSSA State AA Tourney run, going 1-1 in pool play before last Saturday's 1-1 showing in the gold bracket. They defeated the Bellevue Bruins White 6-1 in the opening round before a 6-5 loss to the Grand Island Riverdogs White.
The 11U Blair squad, meanwhile, went 2-1 in silver bracket competition after a 1-1 pool play effort. The Cubs beat the Omaha Suburban Stampede White and Silver before a 7-6 loss to the York Knights ended their run on Sunday.
A 2-2 state tournament showing ended the 10U Cubs' season last Saturday. They beat the Millard United Legends White and the Seward Jr. Jays before a loss to the Wahoo Craws closed out the 2021 campaign.
Finally, the 9U Cubs went 1-2 in their USSSA tournament. The Blair team's win came by a 19-7 score in pool play. It finished the season 22-14, according to the Cubs' Facebook page.
Team tryouts for next season began Tuesday. Next Tuesday, tryouts continue for 7U, 8U, 12U and 9U at the former Dana College ballfields.

Henton Trenching team wins BYSA division title
The final Blair Youth Softball Association Modified Tournament champion was crowned July 1 at the Youth Sports Complex.
Henton Trenching defeated Eriksen Construction, clinching the C Division title for athletes in grades 2-3. A day earlier, the National Land Realty and Santa's Woods teams won the A and B Division finals, respectively.

Chaos softball teams compete
Blair Chaos softball teams earned top tournament finishes last month.
The 2008 Blair Chaos team competed at the Class B state tourney in Hastings, finishing third in its bracket.
The age 10 and younger Blair Chaos softball team, meanwhile, recently won the Wahoo Cavalry Tournament Gold Division last month.
The Chaos earned its title with a 4-0 win against the Norris Tractor House Team, according to the squad's Facebook page.

Grizzlies set for tryouts
Grizzlies youth baseball tryouts start next Tuesday in Blair.
Tryouts for ages 7-14 will take place over three days, Tuesday through Thursday. More details and registration information can be found online at blairgrizzlies.com.

FCYSO registrations remain open
Fort Calhoun Youth Sports Organization registration periods for cheerleading and volleyball remain open.
Volleyball signups continue through July 15, while cheerleading is open until July 27. Go online to calhounyouthsports.com for more information.
