Black Elk-Neihardt Park trail race deadline approaches
The Greater Omaha Area Trail Runners (GOATz) will host August trail races at Black Elk-Neihardt Park for a second-straight year.
Registration for the Aug. 13 Hilly Goat Half, 10K and 5K in Blair closes July 22. It is available online at ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=92493 with more information available at Facebook.com/whatthehillhalf.
The course will change a bit from last year with a “more exciting” half-marathon loop, according to GOATz President Ron Ruhs of Blair. Race day parking will be available at Christ Lutheran Church, too.
After its 2021 race, the GOATz gave $1,000 back to Black Elk-Neihardt Park with plans to do another donation again in 2022.

Quota deer and antelope permits available soon
Hunters may begin purchasing unlimited quota Nebraska deer and antelope permits July 11, according to a recent Nebraska Game and Parks Commission release.
Residents, nonresidents and eligible landowners may purchase permits starting at 1 p.m. that day. They can do so online at outdoornebraska.org, in person at a Game and Parks office or via mail (Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, 2200 N. 33rd St., Lincoln, NE, 68503).
The unlimited quota deer permits are resident statewide archery, resident statewide muzzleloader, youth, youth whitetail, nonresident restricted youth, limited landowner and special landowner.
The antelope permits are resident statewide archery and youth archery.
March's Game and Parks regulation changes allow for additional big game permit purchase periods. They allow Nebraska hunters to buy deer and antelope permits in non-draw management units before nonresidents. Therefore, residents have preference over nonresidents.
