The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team ended its winless streak by blowout Saturday.
The Pioneers (1-5 overall) traveled to Plattsmouth and routed the 2-4 Blue Devils 58-31. The victory put coach Marty Plum into a good mood.
“Happy for the kids,” he said.
FCHS has improved through the first month of the season, according to the coach, and its work paid off on the road. The Pioneers trailed 11-9 after one period, but won the second 11-4 before a 38-16 second half.
Tess Skelton led Fort Calhoun with a season-high 31 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers. The senior guard scored 15 points during the first half before adding 16 more during the second.
Bria Bench and Dala Drowne added 10 points apiece for Plum's squad as it hit its highest single-game points total by 19. Raegen Wells scored two points, Kaylee Taylor had two and Maddy Tinkham notched one.
Lyndsey Caba and Natalie Briggs scored 10 points apiece for Plattsmouth in defeat.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to face Conestoga on Monday and closes out its pre-Christmas schedule tonight at Ralston.
