Showing support through Show and Shine

Subhead: Memorial car show scheduled in Herman

Matt Garris, a physician assistant at The Healthy Human, spent time riding motorcycles with Mark Thompson. Thompson passed away from lung cancer in February.

But Garris, Dr. Amber Beckenhauer and others want to celebrate Thompson's life with a Mark Thompson Memorial Show and Shine on Saturday in Herman from 4 to 8 p.m.

"We've cared for the family for years and wanted to do more," Beckenhauer said. "We wanted to celebrate him and make people aware of what a great guy he was."

Beckenhauer said Thompson was nice to everyone and he and his family are exceptional.

"We want to try and give back to them," she said. "It's so hard when the head of household passes away from a financial position. It's important to use to not only do something from a financial fundraiser but as a friend and celebration. We feel strongly about making people know about who he was and what kind of an impact he made.

People with all types of vehicles — including motorcycles — are invited to bring them to the Show and Shine in Herman at Petersen's Bar 75. The event will feature food and drinks for purchase, a portion of which will be given to the family, as well as DJ Bill Skinner keeping the music playing.
