Reckless driving cause of overturned vehicle accident

Four passengers were transported to an Omaha hospital due to injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning on County Road 51 and Acorn Lane.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office, and Fort Calhoun and Ponca Hills fire and rescue squads responded to the accident.

Capt. Aaron Brensel of the sheriff's office said the driver, a 16-year-old boy, was operating the vehicle "in a reckless manner" and swerving left and right of center.

The vehicle soon lost control and collided with a dirt embankment before overturning.

One passenger, a teenage girl, was ejected and pinned under the vehicle, but was alert and conscious prior to being transported.

Brensel said citizens and deputies were able to remove the girl from under the vehicle before she was transported to an Omaha hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Further investigation is still pending.
