The Blair football team lost its first-round Class B playoff game at Waverly on Friday, 42-8.
The 11th-seeded Bears drove within their opposition's 20-yard-line five times, but scored just once against the highly-touted Vikings defense. Senior Dex Larsen notched that lone touchdown with just 5:35 left during the fourth quarter.
“When you're playing a good football team like that, you've got to capitalize on your opportunities,” BHS coach Bryan Soukup said. “Unfortunately, we were just unable to capitalize and put points on the board there at times.”
Waverly, meanwhile, scored 14 points during both the first and second quarters. It finished its first drive of the second half in the end zone as well, pulling ahead 35-0.
The Vikings' win earned them a quarterfinals playoff berth against Elkhorn, which bested Omaha Gross on Friday night.
Blair, meanwhile, finishes the season 6-4 after Waverly snapped its four-game winning streak.
“They will be missed,” Soukup said of his senior class. “This is a great group and I'm very proud of each and every one of them for everything they've accomplished within the program.”
