Posted

Washington County high schools are finished with fall sports this year.

The Fort Calhoun football and Blair volleyball teams lost postseason games Friday and Saturday, concluding the first sports season of the 2021-2022 school year.  The winter season begins with practice Nov. 15.

The Pioneers (7-3 overall) football team lost 35-16 on Friday night against Columbus Scotus. They led the Class C1 first round playoff game 16-14 at halftime.

Clint Dierks and Zane Schwarz scored touchdowns for FCHS, while Mason Bliss knocked through a 20-yard field goal before halftime. Schwarz's score came on a halfback pass by Austin Welchert.

The Blair volleyball team, meanwhile, lost the Class B1 District Final match to top-ranked Norris on Saturday morning, 25-12, 25-5 and 25-10. The Bears end the fall with a 11-16 record. It's the most wins the BHS program has earned during a single season since 2002.
