The Fort Calhoun Senior Legion baseball team responded to a second one-run loss to top-seeded Blair with a season-extending win Saturday against ETC Knights Red.
Facing the Elkhorn Mount Michael squad during a Class B Area 3 Tournament elimination game, Zig Drywall scored seven runs during the first two innings of a 9-0 victory. The five-inning win on its own diamond solidified its standing in the tournament, which continued Sunday, Monday and into today's 4 p.m. final. Full results will appear in Friday's Washington County Enterprise edition.
The Pioneers scored two runs during the first inning of Sunday's game against the ETC Knights. It added five during the second and one apiece during both the third and fifth frames.
Calhoun's Sam Genoways was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs altogehter. Chase Premer, Kenny Wellwood, Josh Miranda, AJ Duros and Andrew Namuth plated runs, too. Miranda and Duros scored two tiems apiece, too.
Declyn Otte, meanwhile, secured Post 348's pitching win. He threw three innings, allowing just one hit.
Charlie Boumstein then relieved Zig Drywall's starter, allowing no hits during the fourth and fifth frames of the win-or-go-home tilt.

Blair edges Calhoun, 2-1
Fort Calhoun nearly pulled a first-round upset Friday during the Area 3 Tournament.
Tied with top-seeded Blair going into the final inning, the Post 154 Bears plated the run Zig Drywall couldn't for a 2-1 win. It was the second time in July the Pioneers entered the final frame tied with Blair and the second time they fell short after a Dylan Swanson RBI swing. After a homer to win the teams' regular season matchup, the winning pitcher hit a single to win the postseason game.
Post 348, however, kept Blair in check after giving up a run during the first inning. Wellwood, the starter, pitched five innings, allowing just three hits, before Colin Bolay struck out two batters across the last 1 2/3. The pitchers combined to walk just two batters all game.
Though it trailed early, Calhoun scored the tying run during the top of the third inning. Premer scored it on Miranda's sac fly. Premer had one of his team's four hits alongside Wellwood, Miranda and Jordan Back.
Premer, Wellwood, JT Mlnarik, Genoways and Duros drew Fort Calhoun walks in defeat, too.
