Pioneers wrestling goes 1-3 in Lincoln duals

The Fort Calhoun wrestling team defeated its host Saturday, but went 1-3 overall during the Lincoln High Wrestling Duals tournament.
The Pioneers beat the Links 60-6, but lost to Papillion-La Vista South (53-18), Lincoln Southwest (64-15) and Lincoln Southeast (34-24). The Titans went 4-0 to win the event, while Southwest was second with a 3-1 mark.
Eight FCHS wrestlers won contested matches across the four duals. Ely Olberding and Wesley Short were the most productive, winning two bouts apiece.
Olberding was 2-0 at 138 pounds with a pair of first-period pins. Short, meanwhile, went 2-1 overall at 170 and 160 pounds. He pinned Christian Zuniga of Lincoln Southeast in 3:11 and bested Ryan Manning of Southwest by 2-0 decision.
The Pioneers' Gage Nixon, Levi Lasher, Fred Altstadt, Tyler DeMilt, Dakota Tripp and Mason Touring added a win apiece, too. Lasher, DeMilt, Tripp and Touring earned pins with Touring's taking just 22 seconds at 220 pounds.
Fort Calhoun next competes Friday and Saturday during the Class B District 4 Tournament in Ogallala. Matches toward state qualifications will take place at Prairie View School. Olberding and his brother Lance Olberding are three-time qualifiers seeking their fourth.
