The Fort Calhoun softball team earned a victory Monday for the first time since 2019.
The Pioneers' 7-5 win over Tekamah-Herman was just its second since a 10-victory campaign in 2018, too.
“Amazing,” coach Mandy Taylor said. “Broke the streak!”
Overall, FCHS went 1-1 for the day at Weeping Water, dropping a 13-3 nightcap to the host Indians. It is 1-3 this season.
To get that one, though, the Pioneers came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Tigers. They scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to get Taylor's first win as head coach.
Seniors Malaya Alicea and Katie Barta, as well as freshmen Kaylee Taylor and Addie Benoit, tallied RBIs, while Sam Brewer and Maddie Reed notched two hits apiece. Anna Taylor and Lucie Larsen split pitching duties with Taylor picking up the victory with two strikeouts and just four hits allowed over 3 1/3 inning.
Then, against Weeping Water, Barta and Brewer notched RBIs in defeat. The two players also combined for all three Fort Calhoun hits.
The Pioneers hosted Syracuse on Thursday night and next competes Monday when it hosts Schuyler at 6:30 p.m.
