Pauline Ann Alter, 89, of Blair, died Nov. 18, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.
Pauline was born July 19, 1935, in Omaha to Clifford A. and Lillian (Agee) Billings. She was a 1953 graduate of South High in Omaha, where she met the love of her life, Ronald F. Alter. They were married Oct. 1, 1953.
She worked as a legal secretary in high school and after graduation, and later as the secretary and bookkeeper for the couple’s business, Alter Veterinary Supply. She later was the executive assistant at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home in Omaha. In 1986, the couple moved to rural Fort Calhoun, where they grew Christmas trees and enjoyed retirement. They were active volunteers with their church. In 2008, they moved to Blair.
Pauline was fiercely devoted to her family. She helped raise all three of her grandchildren and delighted in their activities. She provided a home for numerous rescue dogs and cats. She was an accomplished cook and baker and was well known for her pies and pastries.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Elaine, and brothers, Clifford Jr., and Paul. She is survived by her daughters and spouses, Michelle and Jim Price of rural Washington County, and Melissa and Phillip Rice of Blair; grandchildren and spouses, Annie and Mark Feldman, and Aaron and Sarah Price, all of Omaha, Sydney Rice and Seth Fergus of Blair; and three great-grandchildren, Allan and Anthony Feldman, and Isabella Price, all of Omaha; sister and brother-in-law, Lonnie and Ray Newton, and sister-in-law, Pat Billings; niece, Pamela Billings.
At her request, there will be no funeral services. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.
