Nona J. Pleskac, 89

Nona Jean (Sisson) Pleskac was born June 10, 1933 in Craig, to Lloyd and Hazel (Longwell) Sisson. Nona grew up in Craig until the family moved to South Omaha where she attended Omaha South High School.

Nona married Joseph Pleskac in Omaha, on June 24, 1950, and to this union, 7 children were born: James, Joe, Jr., John, Debra, Jeff, Cheryl, and Jerome. The family lived in Omaha until they moved to their first farm in 1958; there, Nona separated the cream from the milk and sold the cream at the Irvington Creamery. The family then moved to Jacob’s farm; and then they settled at the County Line Farm. Nona was a dedicated mother and housewife, and did odd jobs such as selling figurette bras and Tupperware. They then moved to Elkhorn, where they resided for 46 years. Nona worked at the Douglas County Annex, for Daylight Donut Shop, Friedman’s Nursery and Clark Jensen Nursery.

Nona was an avid baker, and learned to make Kolache’s and other Czech dishes from her mother-in-law. She was known for her fried chicken, which she made every Sunday after church for the family. She enjoyed country music, especially the old time 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Her biggest passion were flowers and plants. She loved her job at the nurseries, and loved tending to her flower garden at her home.

Nona will be remembered as a loving, caring, and fun woman. She had a unique giggle, and enjoyed going out for coffee and lunch, and looked forward to a meal at the old Happy Chef or Garden Café. Most of all, Nona cherished her family. She loved square dancing, listening to polka music, and traveling with Joe. And her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She had 23 grandchildren and 62 great- and great-great-grandchildren. Some of her favorite memories were when she shot a snake out of a tree above where the kids were playing, or the time in the early 1960’s when Joe came home with a pink and white Dodge station wagon. They packed all 7 kids in the car to go on a road trip! Nona fried some chickens, and packed the car with food to eat on the way. The kids remember eating cold cereal for breakfast at a table in Montana and nearly freezing to death in the snow.

Nona passed away at Nye Pointe in Fremont, Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers Roy, Richard, and Thomas Sisson; and her great grandson Austin Hansen. Nona is survived by her children James, Joe, Jr. and Mary, John and Shirley, Debra and Ronald Hansen, Jeff, Sr. and Diana, Cheryl, and Jerome, Sr. and Patricia; and numerous grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren, brothers Charlie & Cathy Sisson and Lester Sisson, and many nieces and nephews.
